The past few weeks have seen the UK basking in a heatwave.
Across the country, Britons have enjoyed temperatures in the mid-to-late twenties, with some southern areas even recording highs of 30°C! But while the sun is a welcome change from the usual British summer (rain, rain, and a bit more rain), it does cause its fair share of problems.
From sweaty public transport to peeling sunburn, the sun is always up to mischief. But nothing is worse than opening your car door and being greeted by the tropical sauna that is the interior of your car!
To prevent the most uncomfortable, sticky and sweaty journey known to man, you need to cool down your vehicle… and fast! But how? Aspland are here to help.
First, open all the doors. This will generate a flow-through of cool(er) air, and expel the baking hot air that’s built up inside your vehicle. If you want to go all out, open your boot too!
Second, switch on your air conditioning. Obvious, we know, but are you turning it on correctly? The air outside your vehicle will be cooler than that inside; therefore, selecting the ‘external’ air setting will generate a more pleasant flow of air than the ‘recirculation’ option.
Third, utilise the lower air vents. Quick science lesson: heat rises, so it makes sense to blast cold air into the footwells. This will direct the unpleasant warm air up and out of your open windows. It’s also worth turning off any dashboard vents, as this may disrupt the upwards flow.
It’s time to start driving, but its worth keeping the windows open for a couple of minutes as this allows any hot air to escape. However, close them as soon as the air-con feels cooler than that from outside.
Once the windows are closed, you can return to (the now cool) recirculated air. Open the air vents on your dashboard and adjust the flow as you wish. Your vehicle is now the perfect temperature!
But how can you prevent getting into this situation in the first place?
If possible, try to park in the shade. Many people overlook their garage as a source of shade; while its used as shelter in the winter, it’s often overlooked in the summer. However, your garage will help keep your vehicle cool, out of reach from the sun’s rays, and ready for your journey the next day.
To protect your car interior, it’s worth investing in a windscreen sunshade. They reflect heat from UV rays to keep your vehicle cool, protecting your electronic systems and leather seats. A no brainer really!
